Today was day 14
Friday
Today was two weeks into our journey to Rivendelle. Oh how many things have happened. I guess when you ask God to make something happen He listens. Go figure huh? Today was our first day here in California. Woke up and were on a mission. To surprise my father!
The Ruse is: Have my mom call my dad at work and tell him she needs to borrow his credit card case something happened to hers. She would get the address of his job and come pick it up form him. BUT in fact it would be ME who would be outside.
I went to starbucks and orderd dads favorite, a Venti mocha with whip and extra chocolate drizzle, and two pieces of coffeecake. We drove to his job and to maintain the surprise when we got there we had my mom call and tell dad that she was there to pick up his card. Dad came out of the house and THERE WE WERE! TA DAH! He looked at me, then at Michael, then at me, then at Michael. He said "Hey! Wait a second? What are you doing here?" He gave me a BIG hug and I was so happy to spring myself on him! We got to spend about half an hour there with him talking and it was really the best most fun thing to do.
As per my usual tradition I had scheduled our hair appointment for today in Cupertino at Teased. We wanted to go see my dad then toodle on down for hair, but the problem was is we were done seeing my dad by 10 and hair wasn't till 1pm. What would we do for 3 hours? We drove down to San Jose and drove around all my old haunts and neighborhoods. Saw the house I lived in when I was young and my favorite Starbucks. It was kinda sad, nothing was like I remember it, some things had closed, some were closing, others had been turned into Starbucks. It was so different in the year we have lived in Virginia and the year before that up north on the Peninsula.
By now it was time to head to the Hair Lady :) The lovely Megan. As were parking Michael gets an email form one of the places he had applied to asking him to come in for an interview. How GREAT! HOW EXCITING! Michael has been waiting weeks to hear from someone. This was one of the most hoped for jobs too. So whats the catch?
Oh, didn't I say?
Its not much, only that the interview is this coming Monday, in Orlando, Florida.
Wait. What?!? No we JUST got to California for a week with our family. We just bought ALL our food for cooking meals at home for the week. We have not even seen all four of our parents yet! Wow. Ok, maybe this isn't so great.
So we have been in California for about 12 hours and are now booking our flight out within 72 hours of landing. bummer.
Our moms are being brave and putting on a good face, but are both really upset. And Im doing my best to be supportive of my dearest husbands dream and career.
Now that little bomb shell has been dropped on us, lets go get our hair done... wooohooo!
I felt so bad for Megan today. She was so excited to see us (were friends too not just clients) and we come in buzzing, Im almost in tears, and michael is trying to change our flights on his phone and figure out if we can get a HandiVan rental and a hotel, while making some phone calls. We were not much fun today for Megan to help.
