Now I think most of you know how much Michael
and I love Disney.
In January we were thinking about moving to
Orlando so Mike could intern for Disney's Wide World of Sports. We really tried
to make it work. We even went location scouting for apartments.
At that time the only way I was considering
living in Florida is if we lived near Disney World. How cool would that be
right???
But Michael is really thinking that Florida
might be a good next step for us anyway. He lived in Florida as a young boy and
LOVES it there. The weather is his idea of perfection. It is NOT my idea of
good weather AT ALL, so I was promised copious amounts of air-conditioning
(year round if necessary,) beach theme apartment decorations, and an alligator
or flamingo charm for my Pandora bracelet. I have been persuaded to consider
it. How magnanimous of me lol! That’s MOSTLY a joke. I do HATE the heat
and humidity, but I love Michael and he loves it there. If he gets a job
anywhere I'm game to go. I’m excited to try somewhere new and experience new
climates and people. Like moving here to Virginia, I hope wherever we go next
will be as awesome!
Besides Disney, all I knew about Florida was that it is hot, humid, lots of retirees, Spanish, far from home, and has all manner of bugs and human eating creatures. (Go Gators!)
I will be the first to admit that I am VERY
spoiled. Growing up in California will RUIN you for real weather ect… Then we
found out that Disney is restructuring their Graduate Level internships and
they are not hiring ANYONE in that department till next January.
So Disney, at least at this moment, is not
where we will be. (TOO BAD! I was looking forward to borrowing a cup of sugar
from Minnie.)
We started seriously looking at Florida as a
viable move with Disney back in January and we just continued on south when
that fell through. A friend of a friend works at the Orange Bowl down in
Miami and suggested Mike put in his resume for a 6 month unpaid internship
position in corporate sponsorships. That sounded like a good idea, so he
applied.
Apparently we have the worst timing for job
applications in the world.
(Or God is trying to tell us something…)
Cause it has been another 4 months as they too
are restructuring their internship program and they still have
not made Mike a serious offer. We haven’t closed the door on Miami, but
you can only put so many eggs in that basket.
Now were branching out. We think we should
stay in the South Eastern U.S. for the weather for Mike. He’s applying for lots
of different positions. Some paid, some unpaid. Jobs for the NBA, for Division
I college athletics, and various other things.
While we were waiting we have
discovered/decided we were not really the people we want to be, and
since we have the time, we could focus some of this free time to
self-alteration and reflection.
We have decided to do a 40 Day Challenge.
I’ll tell you all
about it soon...
We may start to sound like my journal here for
a while. (oh, only about 40 days or so...)
