Handy Wife

Look what I did! All on my own!
I installed and mounted a web cam in Penny's room. So we can see her when we're away at church.
It also has 2 way sound so I can talk to her when she's being bad.

as you can see, chewed holes in boxes... thanks Penny...

Tornado Warning!

So today as I was sitting watching tv and folding laundry (how very domestic of me) and all at once the tv, my phone and Michael's phone all started flashing the emergency alert buzzer. "Warning Tornado in your area take shelter immediately. This is not a test." or something like that.
Let me tell you I was shocked! It was raining this morning, but it was partly sunny last time I was outside. Oh dear! I have only ONCE ever lived through a tornado warning. Im from California for crying out loud! We don't get no stinking tornadoes. Last time was in Ohio, we were on the top floor of the hotel, and our AC unit was struck by lightning.  I did NOT SLEEP WELL that night.

So today when I get a phone alert telling me that my actual HOME was possibly in the path of a real life tornado??? NOT cool. The worst part was that our Pup was at daycare, also possibly in the path of a tornado, and we couldn't leave to go get her!
After a long afternoon of watching the news, watching the tornado danger pass us by, lightning that I honestly think struck our parking lot in front of our building, and rain like you would NOT believe! Finally it cleared up enough for us to drive out to get the pup and come home. The poor daycare workers, oh boy! the dogs were going NUTS! When Penny came out she acted like I had been gone for a week. Poor pup. she got in the car said high to Michael very excitedly, then fell asleep hard core in  the back seat and has slept straight through to dinner, then straight through to bed time. One Pooped Pup.

The red, flashy part in the middle is where we live.

Penny realizing that it is raining out,,, maybe she doesn't want to go out after all.

Diet Day One

Well, today is the first day of the "DIET". Trying to find good recipes with VERY few carbs that still tastes good is not as much fun as I was hoping. lol. It took me three hours today to find five interesting looking dinners.

Michael is an AMAZING husband and will let me cook anything for him and will eat it no matter what. Poor fellow, I found this out when a few weeks ago I used an online recipe for beef stroganoff. I cooked the beef EXACTLY how they said to. It was absolutely not edible, even Penny had to hew on it like jerky. I had fed Michael first then took Penny outside for a quick walk before I sat down to eat. When I came back in Michaels plate was clean. I served myself and took a bite. It was HORRENDOUS!!! I have never had such a bad dish. It was dry and chewy and tough and flavorless. Just the worst meat even I have ever cooked. (and thats saying something)
I looked at Michael again, clean plate, and Penny had been with me so she didn't get any, he had eaten it ALL. I asked him what he had thought of it. He said he didn't want to hurt my feelings so he ate it! I laughed and cried. I felt so bad that he felt that he needed to eat that dog meat. How sweet and how silly. I sure love him. I made it clear that he never had to eat anything that I made that wasn't good to him. :)

So whats on the menu tonight? Our first Diet dinner,
http://www.sandyskitchenadventures.com/2011/05/taco-bake.html

This blog, Sandys Kitchen is amazing, she has a ton of great ideas on there!
She calls this the taco bake, I call it Turkey Taco Bake :)
I made a small mistake in my math (BIG SURPRISE) and only used 16 oz of meat, instead of the 23 I was supposed too. Oops. I did some of my own things, like didn't use peppers she called for and used lime and cilantro marinated tomatoes, which I really liked! Also I used leaner meat, and higher fat cheese. All I know is it was GOOD and I will be happy to eat the left overs one night!

Cream cheese, eggs, cheese baking into the "Crust"

99% fat free ground turkey "Scrambling"
Crust out, turkey has tomatoes added.
Yummy...

PRINCESS IN TRAINING

So I'm officially a Princess in Training!
I have really been inspired lately by some of my friends and Michaels choices to step out and make some serious changes and live epic lives!
So today I went on "rundisney.com" and registered for the Disney Princess 5k in February.

As most of you know, I don't run. I don't hurry. I don't hustle. Never EVER have. The farthest I've ever gone in one stretch is one mile, PE teacher close behind with a whip. lol But now I'm putting on my big girl crown and getting focused.  And though a 5k (3.1 miles) is no big feat, the fact that I'm DOING it is huge.

Michael and I both have the same gift/curse. Were dreamers. Big dreamers. The possibilities are always more interesting and exciting than the fact of the present. We already have the names picked out for our children, when we're not even close to ready to have any. We know where we want to retire, ummm Michael hasn't even started school yet. As a kid I would plan vacations that I would never go on, research wonderful majors I'd never take, design houses I'd never be able to build.

There is nothing wrong with dreaming as long as you don't waste your entire life doing it and wishing for things to be better and not doing anything. Carpe Diem! I am starting my new Epic life today! Healthy, active, and epic living. Stop dreaming about Some day, and start doing. Stop dreaming and start LIVING! I'm super excited!

So I am now officially a Princess in Training for the 5k in February and then after that… who knows I'm too busy working on achieving to dream about that right now!

I'll Try Anything Once

So at this super posh Sunday brunch at the Inn at Williamsburg they had oysters. I don't like sea food, any of it... BUT if your ever going to try something fancy like that, I think a place like this would be the kind of place you'd get a good one. They always look so interesting. So I decided to give it a shot.

Well, at least I know for sure I don't like them from first hand experience now... Haha!

On the other hand they had some of the best coffee I've ever had! 😄

Solved!

Michael was given his last clues and solved the puzzle. George Washington was kidnapped by the Dastardly Benedict Arnold and is being held captive in the Governors Palace in Colonial Williamsburg.
the map...

here we are to rescue George!

Birthday Tavern Dinner. They tie your napkin (which is literally the size of a table cloth) around your neck. Thats apparently how they did it back in the 1770's.

The very grateful General Washington presented Michael with a thank you letter, a bottle of his favorite apple cider and a pocket watch to say thank you for his rescue.

Birthday brunch

BEAUTIFUL brunch buffet and plated. Classy joint ya know? :)
